Is "wa" sometimes written "ha" in hiraga

Sometimes I find that the hiragana for "ha," is used for "wa." If you look at the following excerpts from the lessons, you can see that the ha in "hajimemashite," is used as the wa in the sentence "watashi no namae wa Kenii desu." Is this a typo, or do you use は to say わ when it is used as a sentence particle to signify a subject?

はじめまして。hajimemashite

わたし の なまえ は ケニー です watashi no namae wa kenii desu

Dear Karl,
Konnichiwa!

You are correct! :P
hiragana "ha" is used for "wa" when it is used as a sentence particle.

Hi rjjapan,

Thank you for explaining that "wa," when written as a particle, is written "ha" i hiragana. Do you know the tongue twister that goes niwaniwaniwa...? I'd be interested in seeing it written in hiragana or hiragana with kanji, if you have the time to indulge my curiosoty.

Tongue twister, niwa niwa niwa niwatori ga iru

Postby rljapan on Mon Sep 01, 2008 8:21 pm

Konnichiwa Karl!

My apologies for not getting back to you about the tongue twister:
Niwa niwa niwa niwatori ga iru.

Which in Hiragana is written like this:
にわにはにわにわとりがいる
And with Kanji it is:
庭には二羽鶏がいる
